The Digital SAT is the latest version of the SAT exam, now fully online. Transitioning from paper to digital has made the test shorter, more efficient, and secure. It consists of 98 questions—54 in Reading & Writing, and 44 in Math. The scoring system remains the same, with a minimum score of 400 and a perfect score of 1600. Students now take the test on a laptop or iPad using the BlueBook app, aligning the SAT with how students engage with technology today.
One of the most significant changes is the introduction of adaptive testing. The test is section-adaptive, meaning your performance in the first module determines whether you’ll face a harder or easier set of questions in the second module. This approach offers a more accurate and personalized way to assess each student’s skills, catering to individual strengths and weaknesses across subjects.Overall, the Digital SAT is built for the modern world. It’s faster, easier to access, and gives students a better way to demonstrate their college readiness. With shorter reading passages and adaptive testing, it’s tailored to meet the needs of today’s tech-savvy learners.
The Digital SAT is divided into two main sections: Reading and Writing, and Math. You’ll have 64 minutes to complete the Reading and Writing section and 70 minutes for the Math section, making the total testing time 2 hours and 14 minutes. Each section consists of two equal-length modules.
The first module contains a mix of easy, medium, and hard questions. Based on how you perform in the first module, the second module will either be more challenging or easier.
There’s also a 10-minute break between the Reading and Writing section and the Math section.
Here’s a breakdown of the structure:
Reading and Writing: 64 minutes (two 32-minute modules) with 54 questions
Math: 70 minutes (two 35-minute modules) with 44 questions
Total: 134 minutes and 98 questions
Most questions are multiple choice, but some math questions will require you to enter the answer. There’s no penalty for guessing, so if you’re unsure, it’s better to guess than leave it blank.
Of the 98 questions, 8 are pre-test questions that do not count toward your score. However, these questions aren’t identified, as they are used by the College Board to gather data for future exams.
Additionally, you’ll have access to helpful tools during the test, such as a graphing calculator (Desmos), annotation tools, an answer eliminator, and a line reader.
The content of the questions includes:
Reading and Writing:Information and Ideas, Craft and Structure, Expression of Ideas, Standard English Conventions
Math:Algebra,Advanced Math,Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, Geometry and Trigonometry
