‘The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.’ Here is one such inspiring story of a teacher from Ladakh.

Despite having tested positive for COVID-19, Kifayat Hussain from Ladakh is making sure his students don’t miss out on learning. Lodged in an isolation centre in Leh, he is taking online classes using platforms like Zoom and making YouTube videos for his Class 9 and 10 students.  The teacher said he is doing a mix of online classes and pre-recorded videos to compromise on the internet connectivity issues that he faces.

He decided to get himself tested when his village was declared a containment zone. When he was tested positive, he was concerned that his students would be left behind in their studies & it would be a burden for them to study the entire syllabus in a hurry in future. He immediately requested the Ladakh administration to let him teach online.

“My school provided me digital boards and pens and I started conducting daily classes from 2PM to 3PM through Zoom. I recorded lessons on YouTube and sent them to the students”.  Mr Hussain said. While most families maintained a distance even after the patient recovered, Kifayat’s family understood his passion to teach and helped him at all times.

This is a truly inspiring story of commitment.
