Here is a motivational story of how anyone at any age can get onto the online teaching platform. This story is about an Octogenarian Ambuja Iyer, a pioneer in the field of Indian education.

Ms Iyer completed her graduation at the age of 17 and got an opportunity to enroll in IISC, but due to her father’s untimely demise, she had to shoulder her family responsibilities. She started working as a substitute teacher & went on to teach around 50,00 students over the years.

At the age of 80, her genuine desire to teach math has led her to find a way out during COVID-19 to help students. She started her own youtube channel ‘Mathmagic’ where she teaches math to the students of class 6-10 . Her USP is that she does not give any homework. In a 45 minutes session, she not only teaches but also gets the students to revise & complete their task. At the same time, she also found that lots of teachers were struggling to teach online. She created a math forum to help them. She’s been mentoring teachers not only from India but also from other countries like Dubai, USA, UK & Indonesia.

She quotes “I want to help students get over the fear of maths & also help teachers who are facing online teaching a big challenge. I feel there is not much of a difference in teaching online or offline. Math remains the same but if teachers get help as to how to make interesting content, they gain confidence” . Ms.Iyer says that, with incentives in the form of positive feedback and appreciation students will always perform wonders ! Today, there are around 200 teachers in the forum she created & over a thousand students watching her youtube video lessons. She feels that her journey in teaching isn’t over yet & she wants to continue teaching with the same zeal & enthusiasm.
